Case Study 1 – Accountant over charging

One client owned a trucking business had his Accountant attend to his bookkeeping need. The Accountant entered all the data in excel and then just placed the figures in his accounting program. This was ok for the Accountant especially at the end of the financial year but the client did not have the figures on a regular basis to check to see how his business was progressing. The Accountant had done four months of work at a cost of approximately $2000.00. When the client came to Jenny Chapman Bookkeeping Service we undertook the same tasks but increased to include extra services that he required. After 7 months of our services, the cost to the client was $1500.00. This represented a cost of approximately $220.00 per month and the client had everything at his fingertips this procured a saving to the client of $840.00 over the 7-month period.

Case Study 2 – Non compliance of previous Bookkeeper

One client owned a Carpentry business; the client had three years of bookkeeping to be done plus quarterly BAS and his personal tax returns too. So he sent all his paperwork to a bookkeeper in a country town and unfortunately she kept the work for a number of years and did not do three months work and then refused to give the paperwork back. This client came to Jenny Chapman Bookkeeping Service and handed everything that he had to us. A MYOB data file was set up and contact was made with the clients Accountant who explained some of the details of what was happening. We then proceeded to enter the data in (over some very busy June, July and August months). We then managed to send two years worth of work to the Accountant so that he could attend to both the numerous outstanding BAS and the client personal tax return. A very happy client now and everything is up to date.

Case Study 3 – Incorrect setup of MYOB

Our client runs a retail business and has been using MYOB for some time. This client has realised there are areas of concern upon attempting to reconcile her bank accounts. Many previous bookkeepers have come into her business and have all said to her this is a mess and we should look at starting the data file over again. This has happened three times. However, each time the previous bookkeepers have set the accounts up in the same way, thus carrying the same errors to the new file. We were called and Jenny went to see her and found that the accounts were incorrectly set up thus making the very confusing mess that she had. We then proceeded to track back to where it all started and fix the errors first before moving on. The client is now happy that she can see that it is being reconciled to the bank accounts and the errors have been eliminated. This client inputs all the data herself and we come into the shop weekly and just reconcile the accounts so that they are all up to date for her.
